9 Days Camel Trek in Erg Chegaga Desert from Marrakech
Experience an authentic adventure with this 9-day camel trekking tour in the wild dunes of Erg Chegaga, one of the most remote and untouched areas of the Moroccan Sahara. This journey offers a unique opportunity to explore vast desert landscapes, meet nomadic families, and travel the traditional way—on foot and by camel—through golden dunes, dry lakes, and acacia plains.
Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Taliouine
After breakfast, depart from Marrakech and travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Pass Berber villages, the Ouirgane Valley, and Asni. Stop along the way for panoramic views and lunch in a local restaurant. Continue to Taliouine, known as the saffron capital of Morocco. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 2: Taliouine – Taznakht – Foum Zguid – Iriki Lake – Erg Chegaga
Travel south through Taznakht to Foum Zguid. After lunch, head off-road across the dry Lake Iriki, a vast desert plateau dotted with acacia trees. Visit nomadic families living in traditional tents. Arrive in Erg Chegaga dunes in the late afternoon. Meet your camel team and enjoy dinner under the stars. Overnight in a desert camp.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – Khert Lgerzi
Begin your camel trek after breakfast. Walk through the dunes of Erg Chegaga for about 4 hours. Stop for lunch near a nomadic watering area. Continue trekking for another 2 hours to reach Khert Lgerzi. Overnight in a camp in the desert.

Day 5: Erg Sedra – Erg Zehar (Lucky Dunes)
Walk towards Erg Zehar, known as the “Dunes of Luck.” Stop for traditional Berber tea under an acacia tree and enjoy lunch along the way. Continue trekking through stunning landscapes. Overnight in camp at Erg Zehar.
Day 6: Erg Zehar – Sidi Naji
Leave Erg Zehar and walk for about 4 hours through changing desert scenery. After lunch, continue to Sidi Naji, a sacred site with a historic marabout tomb visited by nomads. Overnight in camp.
Day 7: Sidi Naji – M’hamid El Ghizlane
